Job Summary This position is located in the Office of Medical Affairs and has a dotted line to the Chief Nursing Executive. The incumbent provides independent general medical care and treatment to Saint Elizabeths Hospital consumers including performing physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines, ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests to identify and assess consumer’s clinical problems and health care needs and recording physical findings, and formulating plans and prognoses, based on consumer’s condition. Discusses most difficult cases with physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive consumer care plan.  The Nurse Practitioner also develops health care plans and goals of individual consumers and coordinates, as required, with mental health treatment team and prescribes drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures in accordance with authorized guidelines. Applicants may be required to provide testimony in court as it pertains to the medical condition, treatment, clinical development, or disease process as required. Provides general health assessment for new employees and annual TB screening.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by (DCNA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction

FIRST SCREENING DATE: 2/21/17 and every two (2) weeks thereafter

Licensures, Certifications and other requirements: Applicants must be currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner with the District of Columbia (or have made application for licensure). 
Current certification as Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. A current unrestricted APRN license with prescriptive authority. Contolled Substance License and DEA license from US Department of Justice.

Education :   Master's Degree from an APRN program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE.

Qualifications  and Work Experience : Applicants must have minimum two years professional experience as a Nurse Practitioner or at least one year professional experience at the next lower grade level equivalent to DS 11. Applicants must demonstrates a mastery of a wide range of nursing and medical principals, theories, techniques, practices; performs clinical evaluation; and medical management of patients.   

Work Environment :  Work is in a controlled environment and involves some exposure to moderate risk of accidents and requires following basic safety precautions.
